Steve Lawson
I’m Steve Lawson and I work at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. I’m proud of the work I did on the Library Camp of the West last year, and that’s why I’m a Shover and Maker.
At Library Camp of the West, we got over a hundred librarians from Colorado, Wyoming, and beyond to come together for a day of semi-structured presentations and discussions about libraries. Of course I wasn’t the only person responsible; my friends Joe Kraus and Laura Crossett (left and center in that photo; I’m the dork on the right) planned it with me, and the whole thing wouldn’t have happened if all those library folks hadn’t shown up eager to talk to each other.
Working to set up Library Camp of the West underlined for me the fact that it’s not good enough to have a good idea, but that you need to share that idea with the right people, and let it grow into a reality. Thinking big thoughts and making big plans pales in comparison to sharing and trying and doing.
As one of the administrators of this site, of course I hope that everyone will want to be a Shover and Maker. But for now, I’ll just tag Laura and Joe, and hope they weigh in on LCOW or whatever else they want to share.
