Sarah Glassmeyer
My name is Sarah Glassmeyer and I happily accept my nomination as a “Shover and Maker” for 2009. As my bio says on every website I touch, I am a “Reference Librarian at University of Kentucky College of Law. Accidental Web 2.0 enthusiast. Raconteur and bon vivant.”
Yep. That pretty much sums it up.
When I got into the library game, I didn’t have any intention of being involved in technology. I wanted to be surrounded by dusty books, write in-depth articles about legal history and preferably never talk to people.
Things didn’t quite work out that way.
Blogging was my gateway drug into Web 2.0. I felt I had to share the joy and ease of these applications with my fellow law librarians. So now I give talks, run training programs and otherwise try to show how these Web 2.0 resources can be used, but with a pragmatic approach. You’ll never see me use a piece of technology just because I can…there better be some actual benefit to it.
Currently I’m most proud of the wiki and Google map I created for the AALL 2009 annual meeting. I’m not just proud that I made them…I’m proud that other law librarians are getting their WYSIWYG on and adding to it. Hopefully it will make the Annual Meeting experience better for someone.

[...] There are avenues for recognition….most notably LJ’s Movers and Shakers. But that’s only 50 or so people out of several hundred thousand librarians. (I also note that this year there was no one from Kentucky nor were there any law librarians.) The LSW, an organization that I am proud to be a part of, has inaugurated it’s Shovers and Makers to allow highlight those other thousands. Go check out both of those lists and be inspired by what librarians all over the world are doing. And while you’re at the Shovers and Makers site, nominate yourself….I did. [...]

Great hat, Sarah. I think that’s what all my knitted items are missing…ears! :)
