Rudy Leon

I’m Rudy Leon, Learning Commons Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I’ve been here since October, and am having a lot of fun inventing my job — moving into the next stage of developing a Learning Commons without a separate space!

I am a proud member of the Library Society of the World, a community of people who keep me in hope and inspiration. I hope I contribute as much back as I get!

What’s my proudest accomplishment of the year? Probably just moving bravely forward from my old position into my new one. More publicly, my work twitterstream (check us out at http://twitter.com/askundergrad) has been a wonderful success, and a learning experience about implementing change and bringing folks along at the same time. I think I found a way to connect student’s intellectual life with the library, and that’s a success by any measure. That I snuck in a wiki and a shared calendar at the same time? Icing!

And I love that LSW Shovers & Makers also share in that progress and applaud it. Shovers & Makers — I’m proud to make change with you all!

Rudy forgot to say that she blogs sporadically (but it should be picking up soon!) at Deepening the Conversation , and is rudibrarian on twitter, slideshare, and most other social sites.

She’ll also be bringing up some new and innovative stuff as AskUndergrad or as Undergrad on LibraryThing, Facebook, MySpace and Flickr soon!

As a user of the undergrad library at the U of I, I’ve been sorely dissappointed with Rudy’s customer service. I’m planning on writing a letter of complaint.
