Rebecca Tolley-Stokes

philly1I moved articles and information at Sherrod Library, East Tennessee State University prior to returning from a leave of absence to find my duties reassigned. With no Interlibrary Loan duties, Reference is my area of expertise. My Dean wants me to be “Facebook Librarian,” and so we’re still defining my new, improved role at the library; its possibilities excite me.

Shoving professional development opportunities to my colleagues is something I’m known for at my library. My colleagues receive scads of email from me regarding calls for papers, or ideas I have for new programs, outreach, and library instruction, all in the name of padding their c.v.s for promotion and tenure.

Helping librarians publish reviews is another aspect of professional development shoving I regularly perform. I’m the book review editor for my state library association journal, Tennessee Libraries. Thus, I encourage and cultivate reading books and writing book reviews across the state of Tennessee.

In an effort to re-engage with librarianship—because I’ve been unexcited about it for several years– I started blogging on library topics earlier this month at adjlibrarian. I’m not new to blogging at all and credit Jessamyn West for inspiring me in many ways, both professionally and personally. She is my guru.
