Maurice Coleman – Shoving, Making and Experimenting, Baby!

Hi, my name is Maurice Coleman, Harford County Public Library of Maryland but I am not a librarian.

My job title is Technical Trainer, sometimes emphasizing the technical “The internet is broken on my computer and before I call the techs, can you fix it?” stuff, sometimes the “teach us how do this” training stuff.

I am one of my system’s lead Shovers and Makers, I foster real innovation, translate technology to the masses, flourish as a change agent, relish my role as a technological explorer, browbeat staff encourage the use of the right technology for the right result, help librarians explore the Read Write Web and being paid to play with efficiently explore new stuff.

I love being the change I want to see in libraries.

To that end, I gladly accept this award for my work on two projects this past year.

First, Jennifer Ranck (now Director of the Somerset County (MD) Library System) and I remixed Learning 2.1 into a 10 week program to do some
in-depth exploration of 10 additional Web Technologies for Maryland Public Library Staff reinforcing skills learned in the original Learning 2.0 program.

Second, This past summer, I looked around and saw a small (by that I mean almost nonexistent number) thimbleful of podcasts that focused on training issues and none that focused on training in libraries.
So, I decided to do something about it my podcast T is for Training was born.

T is for Training has helped me become a better trainer by exposing me to different library viewpoints about training
and staff development issues. By constantly experimenting with social networking tools, T is for Training has helped to create a network of library trainers, who no longer have to feel like they are in this alone.
