Marie Kennedy

You know what? There’s a lot to do when you start a new program in a library. I’m the very first Serials & Electronic Resources Librarian at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA and will be in charge of managing the complete life cycle of the print and electronic continuing resources in our collection. Continuing resources haven’t been looked at in a while, there’s no current procedural documentation anywhere, people don’t really know what it is exactly I DO here anyway. And frankly, I love it. So! Many! Ways! to be creative, try things out, challenge people to think about ‘the way we’ve always done it’ differently.

Since I started this job in November 2008 I’ve been actively shoving unused print resources out of the way and making room for new electronic resources. Literal and metaphorical dust has ensued, and that’s okay, because we’re moving forward and getting organized. I am lucky to work with people that share my enthusiasm for license agreements, COUNTER reports, and monkeys.

I humbly accept this Shover & Maker award, pleased to join the ranks of such an imaginative and intelligent group.

Find me around the Internet as orgmonkey. I write a blog about organization, librarianship,Marie Kennedy and sometimes monkeys and/or bananas at http://orgmonkey.net
