Kaijsa Calkins

kaijsa

My name is Kaijsa, and I’m the English Reference and Instruction Librarian at the University of Wyoming. As you might imagine, that means I select materials my subject areas, work on the reference desk, and teach. I teach a lot. A lot lot lot, and I love it. I’m lucky because I get to do other stuff, too, like chair the web team, play around with technology, and try out what seems useful for our patrons.

At Wyoming, I’m surrounded by great colleagues–in UW Libraries, across campus, and across the state. This has allowed me to work on some pretty cool projects without having to shove too hard, actually. All my favorite accomplishments are those where I collaborated with others. Recently, that meant Get on the Bus, Wyoming! With four other librarians, including the amazing Laura Crossett, I got to introduce 2.0 technologies to library staff from all over our state. And it all started with a conversation over lunch at Library Camp of the West. It’s a great example of how much you can shove and what cool stuff you can make with the help of others.

I’m so excited that you liked “Get on the Bus, Wyoming.” Laura was telling me about that project and it seemed like a great thing to be a part of.

It was really fun! I’d recommend something like this to anybody with the time and inclination–it’s really rewarding to share what you know with people who just need a little support to try new things.

How much does it cost to ride the bus? Do you have any transfer slips from RTD-Denver to Wyoming?
