Jill Sodt

Jill recently took over as the Coordinator/Librarian for the Gust E. Lundberg Learning Resources Center at Black Hawk College in Galva, Illinois. She is excited about the challenges of being the sole MLS librarian and a supervisor of six staff members in a small community college setting.

One of best parts of her position are the opportunities for library instruction. She is exploring various avenues for providing a comprehensive program to the undergraduate students with the goal of giving the students skills that will help them in their eventual transition to a four-year university or as they venture into employment in a variety of fields.

Her other plans include providing more portable technology for student use, including Amazon Kindles, Flip video cameras, and iPods. Students have a wide variety of learning styles and Jill intends for the LRC to support them in creative ways. She has motivated and innovative staff that are assisting in this endeavor.

Additionally, Jill is embarking on physical improvements to the Independent Learning Center (part of the LRC), which will increase the number of computers available for student use, and the library. Library improvements have already began with a project to recover older furniture and repurpose space to better suit student needs.
