Jenica Rogers-Urbanek

Hi, I’m Jenica Rogers-Urbanek, and I’m a collection development and technical services librarian at SUNY Potsdam in faaaar upstate New York. Though I’m one of this year’s Movers and Shakers, I’ve been saying entirely seriously that I think Shovers and Makers sound more fun. Because there’s something active about shoving and making, something tangible implied in the words that’s very satisfying. The tangible things that I’m most proud of recently are the ongoing success of the Cooperative Collection Development project profiled by LJ, which I have helped shove into being, and the connections I’ve been making this year through that work, my blog (Attempting Elegance) and other online stuff, and conference networking. I do good work here in my office and on my campus, but I’ve been energized by all the connections I’ve made outside of my very small town this year. Library school students, recent grads, local librarians, librarians and library folk from all over the country and the world… Fantastic. Makes me proud to be in the business of promoting libraries, and take part in the work that we do. And that makes me better when I get back to my very small town to get to work on my library’s local needs. You all make me a better librarian. I hope I can return the favor someday.
