Hi, I’m Greg Schwartz. You may remember me from such legendary podcasts as Uncontrolled Vocabulary #55 and Open Stacks #20. I am honored and delighted to be part of the inaugural group of LSW Shovers and Makers.

Like most of my fellow honorees, I wear many hats in library land. By day, I’m the Library Systems Manager for the Louisville Free Public Library. I handle the day-to-day IT operations and serve as a member of our four-person innovation team. But if you’ve heard my name prior to this post, it’s likely to have been with respect to my role as “that podcasting guy.” I’ve been called worse and, to a degree, it fits.

That said, I’ve done other cool, random stuff. I started a little something called the Carnival of the Infosciences, which was either ahead of its time or years behind it. Many moons ago, I started a blog with my buddy Steven M. Cohen called LISBlogsource, which purported to be the library blog about library blogs. And then, of course, I used to be the editor of the library weblog category at dmoz. (Do you kids even remember dmoz?!?!?)

I am also a grandmaster of the ancient art of Pecha Kucha, as evidenced by this really long video.

Of all the things I’ve done in this profession, I am most proud of the work that I and many of my friends and colleagues did with Uncontrolled Vocabulary, a weekly roundtable discussion about library news and librarianship in general. I made it. And then I shoved people into participating. I owe this award entirely to them. Thank you.

Excellent shoving, Greg! I’ve been listening to back episodes of Uncontrolled Vocabulary every night on my iPod lately. It is so comforting and inspiring to hear all these people who care about the same things I care about. You made it!

I can’t wait to listen to your podcast! Thank goodness for this website…I am learning how cool fellow librarians are. Keep up the good work!

Greg, You are the best shoveler of all! But you forgot your greatest bit of shoveling… grand master of Internet Librarians 2008. You were the most sought after GM I’d ever seen. Congrats my friend! -Nancy
