Catherine Pellegrino
Hi, I’m Catherine Pellegrino, Reference Librarian and Instruction Coordinator at the Cushwa-Leighton Library at Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana.
This morning, I fixed a broken link on our library’s home page, and removed the notice of our Spring Break hours. Last week I fixed a public workstation by swapping out a power cable. About a year ago, I single-handedly started providing reference service via IM (we’re SMCrefdesk on AIM), and last fall I coordinated a library-wide open house during the first week of class. I’m leading the effort to overhaul our library’s web page, working with an outside design firm to develop a clean, standards-based, and functional design that doesn’t require librarian mediation.
I also teach a bunch of one-shot library instruction sessions, and have occasionally consulted with faculty members on how they can construct better research assignments. I have fantasies of someday doing something like this at Saint Mary’s. I also fantasize about information literacy being integrated into our General Education curriculum…and those fantasies may actually come to pass!
I also have a bit of a blog called Spurious Tuples, and a lovely little 18-month-old boy named James.
