Andy Ekins – Senior Library Systems Officer – Canterbury Christ Church Uni, UK

I have been working within a small library systems team for the past 6 years. In that time I have completed my degree in computing and my masters in management. I have successfully negotiated to work flexibly in order to look after my four children (ages: 7, 5, 3, 1) and supported my wife through her Phd.

I have worked in IT for over 15 years, but have never been as excited about technology as I am with the web2.0 technology within libraries. I have decided that I want to work within the field for as long as it keeps me buzzing and as such I’m doing another degree (Information and Library Studies) next year to extend my library knowledge.

I try to practice what I preach and as such I am developing a netwok of library and web2.0 people via twitter (follow me: aekins) and I am selling all my books in favor of ebooks. I am also embarking on a mission to pursued all the library staff to understand, utilise, and promote web2.0 (library2.0) technologies.

Hugs and kisses,
Andy
